Preface

This book was developed from my own viewpoint on life and the universe that we live in.  I look to all human teachings for wisdom and insight, but first and foremost I look to the universe itself for answers.  I incorporate, modify, and reject human ideas and beliefs into my own as I see fit.  I am my own person and do not blindly follow anyone else.

I sometimes read the writings of the Universal Church Triumphant of the Apathetic Agnostic (UCTAA) as well as a few notable Agnostics from history.  You will find some of their writings quoted in this book, since it is sometimes easier to use someone else’s words when they have already articulated an idea well enough.  UCTAA can be found on the Internet at apatheticagnostic.com.  It is both a tongue-in-cheek and serious look at what an Agnostic believes. The following passage is from the UCTAA website discussing the meaning of Apathetic Agnosticism:

There are those that see agnosticism as only a way-station, an intermediate step for those still trying to decide whether to believe in God (or Gods) or to absolutely disbelieve. Agnosticism is seen as a refuge for those who cannot make up their minds.

What this site seeks to illustrate is that agnosticism in itself is a legitimate end position in religious belief. We do not know because we cannot know. The ultimate truth about the existence of a Supreme Being is unknowable. Recognizing this, we can free ourselves from a fruitless search and indeed, no longer care about answering the question. This does not mean we don't care about agnosticism.

The important thing to note is that being an Apathetic Agnostic only means being apathetic about the existence of a Supreme Being and not being an apathetic person in general.  Personally, I just call myself an Agnostic and see no need to add apathy to this title.  It is true that I am an Agnostic that does not actively search for my ultimate creator, but that’s just because I don’t believe there are any good leads to set me on that trail or even if such a trail even exists.  I am open to knowing what or even who may have created the universe but I presently know that none of us actually know the answer.

I am on a trail of my own choosing and my own design that is firmly grounded in being a human being on this planet.  I am not a follower of any one set of teachings and only take in other philosophies that I consider to be consistent with my idea of truth, which in itself is a continuously evolving concept.  I welcome any and all teachings, but only believe what I think is right and real.

Join me in an exploration of my belief and drop any preconceived notions or beliefs of your own as you read through this. I am just one Agnostic and this is what I believe to be true.
